The Badass Breeder curriculum is a service dog curriculum developed by Jeanette Forrey from 4E Kennels, which focuses on empowering, desensitization and socialization. Puppies are raised in an empowered environment, resulting in them gaining confidence through breeder guided emotional responses and meeting their innate needs in order. Intentional and purposeful curriculum and handling aligned to their sensitive developmental benchmarks aid these puppies in their blossoming confidence. The structured curriculum ensures that puppies learn the world is safe, people are kind, and dogs are friendly. Once the puppies are around seven weeks of age, puppy evaluations are performed ensuring that each puppy’s voice is heard and that they are honored and respected not only with their breeder but with their new family as well. The result of developing a solid foundation is seen as puppies transition from our home to yours where they will feel confident and empowered.
Often times people overlook the importance of the development that takes place during the first few weeks of a puppy's life. By the young age of 16 weeks, a dog's temperament is about 80% developed. Every day is critical for their growth and development. At Pacific Northwest Goldadors, we believe that both nature and nurture play a significant role in their development. Our dogs are genetically tested, OFA cleared, have a solid temperament, and are paired to complement each other. Genetics play a role in the resulting puppy’s temperament, which is why we breed intentionally. We also believe that a larger part in developing a puppy's temperament is the nurture that takes place in their environment in the first few weeks of life. This is where the importance of empowered breeding comes in. It is a method that emphasizes the importance of the puppies physical and mental health. While the puppies are with us, they are handled and exposed to a variety of environments, sights, sounds, and textures on a daily basis. These exposures build confidence and nerve strength resulting in an empowered dog who believes in him/herself and is well on the way to becoming a well-rounded, obedient, loving companion.
